Thunder over the Mountain © is an atmospheric and spacious recording of the powerful omnificent forces of nature. It is ideal for relaxation. However, the natural variability of this storm, and the intensity of the closer lightning strikes, make this recording less appropriate for masking sounds or for sleep. I recommend Rolling Thunder © as a better "sleep" recording.

This storm recording is most active as the storm approaches during the first half of the recording and the thunder settles down in the second half as the storm departs. The thunder is more variable and is often spaced a minute or two apart in the latter half of the recording. Rain steadily falls throughout.

Thunder over the Mountain © was recorded in the boreal forest. This is in a completely new area than the previous recordings of Rolling Thunder ©, Thunderstorm ©, and Thunder Crashes © done by Nature Sounds.ca. Previously, the thunder was recorded in a large valley, which imparts natural audio effects to the thunder. This recording was done on a hilltop which brings out a very different character of the thunder and achieves a new ambience. Also, this recording has a good sub-bass (or subsonic) presence for those who have the equipment to reproduce it.

Thunder Over the Mountain © features a long 10 second fade-in at the beginning and a slow fade-out at the end so there are no sudden disturbing interruptions when played looped. Thunder Over the Mountain © is a natural soundscape composed of edited and mixed digital stereo quasi-binaural field recordings. This recording technique produces a 3 dimensional audio image when listening with headphones. Encoded at a bitrate of 192 kps for quality listening.
