Wilderness River © is a very relaxing and soothing recording of cool water rapids on a lazy hot summer day. Bubbling river sounds float on sizzling summer breezes through a remote northern forest of fir, spruce and pine. The heat wafts the evergreen scents past sweet blueberry bushes, and over thick carpets of reindeer moss. Occasional bird chirps are heard as the feathered folks fly overhead, foraging for food through the forest.

The special recording location is what makes Wilderness River © unique. Sitting well back from the river, allows the ambience and space of the soundscape to open up, inviting the listener to experience the total forest. As the summer breezes ebb and flow, so does the soundscape texture, as different sound sources and tones are favored over others by those breezes.

This is deep in the northern boreal forest - in a spot where very few have tread. Thick mosses, often over a foot (30 cm) deep, cover the forest floor - a result of the cool moist habitat. Its on the few hot days like this one, that one realizes that with all the conical shaped trees, there is surprisingly very little shade available in the middle of the forest.

There is something very mesmerizing about the Wilderness River © recording. When I was working on it; I got very close to falling asleep on more than a few occasions! Wilderness River © features a long 10 second fade-in at the beginning and a slow fade-out at the end so there are no sudden disturbing interruptions when played looped. Wilderness River © is a natural soundscape composed of an edited digital stereo binaural field recording. This recording technique produces a 3 dimensional audio image when listening with headphones. Encoded at a bitrate of 192 kps for quality listening. Every moment of this recording is unique and true to its natural occurrence. There are no loops. Recorded at the Kopka River in Northern Ontario, Canada.
