Wild Turkey Challenge © MP3

A young male is trying out his spring strut and four to five older males take exception to this. They are standing shoulder to shoulder in front of him, separating him and the flock. These vocalizations accompany pecks and hitting the young male with their feet. The young male occasionally leaps, but apart from that he is not responsive. About 30 feet away the rest of the flock all females eat as if nothing was happening.

Recorded on the first day of winter (December 21) 2004. It was a mild day that followed some really cold days. In front of the microphones the females eat and coo, behind the microphones the males take care of business. (microphone technique: omni-directional binaural baffle) Edited digital field recording.
