Hot Summer Night © MP3

This was originally an analogue recording made in the mid 1990's. It is a recording made in a grassy area in late August that features (what I believe to be) male katydids calling and competing with each other back and forth in stereo with their zzzZZZZzzz zzzZZZzzz sound. This particular degree or level of call and response, or ebb and flow, I only heard for the few weeks that one season over 15 years ago. It illustrates the cyclical nature of the environment, not only within itself, but also because of the fact that since then, conditions have been different each year so that the same experience has not been duplicated. In oa published critique of this field recording, the author noted that the multiple loop–like structure was extraordinary for an unedited and unmixed field recording.
